Sampling orchids: from Antananarivo to Zurich

The project's first orchid sampling expedition took place in December, in snow covered Zurich. Thanks to Urs Eggli and colleagues at Zurich's wonderful Sukkulenten-Sammlung, and to Hugo (pictured with me below) at the Stadtgärtnerei, for a great tour of the collections.

This weekend the true fieldwork gets underway, with a flight to Antananarivo, Madagascar scheduled for Saturday night, and my first day on the road on Tuesday, with colleagues at the Kew Madagascar Conservation Centre (KMCC), Tsimbazaza Botancial Gardens (PBZT) and the California Academy of Sciences (CAS).

Can't wait!

NB: All sampling for this project is being carried out in accordance with CITES rules and regulations.
